Can the problems associated with post-colonial Kenya be blamed on the form(s) of Western culture and ideology that the Europeans introduced during the colonial era?
Devil
on the Cross

This assignment requires that students craft a 3-4
page, double-spaced paper that considers Ngũgĩ’s indictment of Kenyan society
and argues that either the many societal problems are primarily attributable to
Western influences/imports, i.e. colonialism and capitalism, or that Kenyans,
themselves, are primarily responsible.
Or, are both Europeans and Kenyans responsible for these societal ills?

In other words, can the problems associated with
post-colonial Kenya be blamed on the form(s) of Western culture and ideology that
the Europeans introduced during the colonial era? Or, does the colonial
period and everything that happened, or was introduced during that time, no
longer matter, considering that the Europeans have long since departed?

A well-written paper will provide numerous examples from
the book as evidence to support your argument.
Grammar and spelling will be factored into your grade, as well the
organization, flow and general “readability” of the paper.
