Discussions: Points will be receive by the initial response (one 5 to 10 sentence post) to the discussion question.
In discussions, you are asked to respond to a question or analyze a statement or piece of writing or art.
If you are asked to respond to a question, you should:
Rephrase the question as a statement in the first sentence of your response. (For example, if I asked you, “What are main points of this chapter? Your response should begin with, “There are five major points to this chapter. The first major point is… ”
Answer all parts of the question.
If you are asked to analyze a statement or piece of writing, you should:
Discuss the pros and cons of the statement or the author’s ideas and comments.
Compare/contrast your ideas and the author’s ideas.
Use appropriate sources to support your ideas
Use the appropriate vocabulary words in your response.
Write a response that is one paragraph (5-10 sentences) long.
Use correct grammar and spelling
NOT repeat the ideas or comments over and over.
When you respond to others, you should:
Write a response that is (3-5 sentences) long
Briefly state the pros and cons of the students’ ideas
Include your ideas on the subject.
Other discussion requirements:
You must participate in the discussion regularly (Don’t wait untill the last day).
To get full credit you must follow the discussion rubric. If you do not participate in a discussion you will receive points for the assignment.
There are no make-up assignments for discussions without a valid documented excuse.

Initial response:
